Sustainability

Our ambition is to develop skincare products with the least possible climate impact. We strive to work with sustainability at all levels and put a lot of effort into finding solutions that minimize our negative impact on our planet. What is more sustainable for the planet is also, amazingly, more sustainable for our skin.

Slow Skincare

When it comes to skin care, we advocate a minimalist routine and we call this concept and our philosophy "slow skincare". Slow skincare is about investing in products that are carefully produced using sustainable methods and carefully selected ingredients. This philosophy emphasizes the use of fewer high-quality products to reduce unnecessary consumption and waste, and represents skin care that is both beneficial to the individual and to our planet.

"Sustainability is not a separate and distinct focus area for us. It is integrated into everything we do and forms the basis for all decisions we make."

Made in Sweden

Sweden has long been a symbol of quality, innovation and sustainability and we are proud that both our development and production take place in Sweden. Our laboratory, located in Stockholm, is our heart and behind the development of each product is many years of research and a deep knowledge of the skin and what makes it feel best.

Our team of chemists is led by our founder and skin scientist Dr. Johanna Gillbro and our innovation manager and skin care expert Ulf Åkerström. By conducting our own development, we have full control over every step and thanks to the production taking place in Sweden, we have full visibility into whether it is conducted in an ethical and sustainable manner.

Skinome supports

Natural heritage
Starting in the fall of 2024, we support Naturarvet, a Swedish fundraising foundation that works to preserve Sweden's last old-growth forests. A few percent of Sweden's forests are untouched, and they are being cut down faster than they can be protected. When old-growth forests disappear, large amounts of carbon dioxide are released and habitats for endangered species are lost. By buying up and protecting these forests, Naturarvet ensures that they remain preserved – forever.

Skinome supports

Tree Nation
Planting trees has proven to be one of the most effective solutions to combat climate change. That's why we partner with Tree-Nation, a non-profit organization that helps individuals and businesses plant trees to offset carbon emissions. Founded in 2006, the organization has since planted over eight million trees around the world - a work we are proud to be a part of, together with our customers, where we have planted over 160,000 trees.

Together for a cleaner ocean

At Skinome, we believe in creating skincare that is better for both the skin and the planet. For the past five years, we have supported Ocean Waste Plastic and the ReSEA Project - two initiatives that work together to collect and recycle plastic waste from rivers and oceans in Jakarta, Indonesia.

Since November 2021, we have helped collect 5,424 kg of plastic waste. In the last three years alone, which is covered by our latest certificate, this is 4,637 kg.

ReSea Project is responsible for the collection and traceability of plastic from oceans and coasts. All collected plastic is documented, registered and can be followed all the way from site to recycling. Read more here.

Ocean Waste Plastic recycles plastic into new usable resources, such as packaging in the chemical industry. We do not use this material in our own packaging, as it does not yet meet the requirements for cosmetic products. However, through our support, we still contribute to ensuring that plastic is collected, taken care of and does not end up in nature. Read more about Ocean Waste Plastic here.

Material

Choosing sustainable packaging solutions and materials is crucial to reducing our environmental impact and preserving the planet's resources. That's why we always try to find and work with materials that are recyclable, biodegradable or recycled to reduce waste and preserve nature for future generations.

Our packaging requirements meet the highest standards for cosmetic products and go through all the necessary tests. The plastic in our bottles consists of 40-50% recycled plastic, which means it is a mixture of new and recycled plastic. We have chosen a light polypropylene (PP) bottle that can be easily recycled. The bottle is lightweight as we want to minimize the amount of material used and it is more environmentally friendly to transport as it weighs less.

Our headband and tote bags have been developed in collaboration with Reused Remade – an innovative company that transforms discarded hotel textiles into new, sustainable products. By reusing existing materials, we reduce resource waste and create something useful with a lower carbon footprint. Read more about Reused Remade here.

Our fridge stand is made of biodegradable plastic and developed in collaboration with the Swedish innovative 3D company Lostboyslab, whose goal is to combat the global plastic litter crisis by using only recycled materials. The material in the fridge stand is 100% recycled PLA plastic from disposable items made from corn starch. Read more about Lostboyslab here.

To reduce material consumption, we have made an active decision not to have a cardboard box that our products are in, but instead have chosen to make a product information card. There we include the information that is important for you as a customer and that the regulations for cosmetic products require.

Our cards are printed on FSC-certified paper. FSC stands for Forest Stewardship Council and is an independent, international membership organization. Certified companies follow FSC's rules, known as standards for forestry and traceability. Those who follow the rules are allowed to label their products with the FSC trademark. The FSC trademark allows consumers and companies to choose wood products that come from responsible forestry that takes people and the environment into account.

We have chosen a shipping box that, just like our product information card, is FSC-labeled. To reduce material consumption, we have chosen to have as small a shipping box as possible. It holds exactly our products and product information cards. No more is needed and thanks to this, we do not need to transport air, a small shipping box takes up less space during transport which means that the transport company can transport more at a time which leads to fewer emissions.
