Together for a cleaner ocean
Tillsammans för ett renare hav

At Skinome, we believe in creating skincare that is better for both the skin and the planet. That's why for the past five years we have supported Ocean Waste Plastic and ReSEA Project - two initiatives that work together to collect and recycle plastic waste from rivers and oceans in Jakarta, Indonesia. Every time we order our packaging, we contribute financially to make this important work possible.

What is Ocean Waste Plastic and the ReSEA Project?

ReSEA Project works where the need is greatest, ensuring that plastic is not only collected, but also sorted and documented in a transparent manner. The work is third-party verified, while also contributing to a better local community by creating jobs and improving the living conditions of those involved in the collection.

Ocean Waste Plastic then takes care about this material and recycles the plastic into new usable resources.

Our collective impact

Thanks to your choice to use Skinome products, together we have been able to make a real difference. Since November 2021, Skinome has contributed to the collection of 5,424 kg of plastic waste from rivers and oceans. In the last three years alone, which is covered by our latest certificate, this is 4,637 kg .

This is plastic that has ended up in our oceans and risks affecting both wildlife and ecosystems. By choosing Skinome, you are supporting concrete work for a cleaner future.

The plastic in our oceans

Three-quarters of the Earth’s surface is covered by oceans, and these ecosystems are home to nearly 200,000 identified species that collectively absorb around 30% of human-generated carbon emissions. But the oceans are facing one of their greatest environmental challenges: plastic pollution.

Research shows that the current inflow of plastic from land to the world's oceans is estimated to be somewhere between 1 and 11 million tons per year , depending on the calculation method and which parts of the marine environment are included. Without strong measures, the amount of plastic is expected to increase sharply in the coming decade - and if the trend continues at the same pace, the oceans risk containing more plastic than fish by 2050. This is why initiatives like the ReSEA Project are so important - and why we at Skinome have chosen to support the project since its inception.

A step in our larger sustainability journey

Reducing our environmental impact is a central part of Skinome's mission. Our support for Ocean Waste Plastic and the ReSEA Project is one of several initiatives where we actively work to create positive long-term change – from how we formulate our products to how we manufacture and distribute them.

Together we continue to take steps towards a more sustainable skincare industry and a healthier planet.
